Pre Procedure Instructions
When there is a medical procedure you must undergo, it can be worrying. At Nexus Pain Care, we understand this concern and will do everything in our power to support you before, during, and after your procedure. This begins with providing clear instructions for you to follow.
Financials:
- You can expect to receive a cost estimate at the time of scheduling your procedure.
- You are encouraged to ask about payment plans prior to canceling any procedure due to financial hardship. Procedures are an integral part of your treatment. We will try to work with you to arrange a payment plan that is affordable to you.
Driver:
- Patients undergoing conscious sedation must have a driver on the day of the procedure.
- Rideshares such as Uber and Lyft are not allowed. The driver must be an adult, 18 years or older.
- The driver is expected to check in with you, remain at the facility during the procedure (may wait in the car due to COVID), and drive you home after discharge. If the driver leaves the premises at any time, your procedure may be delayed or canceled.
- If you are not receiving sedation, you will be able to drive yourself home.
- If a driver cannot accompany you, the procedure may be canceled or may be done without sedation.
*Children should not be brought to the facility*
NPO Guidelines:
- If you are receiving sedation (general anesthesia or conscious sedation), you cannot eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to the procedure.
- Alcohol should not be consumed 48 hours before your procedure.
- If you do not follow these instructions, you will have your procedure canceled or you may continue with the procedure without sedation (depending on procedure type/pain tolerance).
Medication:
- You should take your regular medications (pain medication, blood pressure, etc) as prescribed the day of your procedure with a small sip of water.
- Blood thinners, aspirin, and anti-inflammatories can increase the risk of bleeding with your procedure. If you are on blood thinners or taking anti-inflammatories, please be sure to notify us prior to scheduling your procedure. We will provide you with instructions on when to stop them.
*We may need clearance from the prescribing doctor (PCP/Cardiologist) prior to your procedure*
- If you are diabetic, we will try our best to schedule your procedure in the morning. Be sure to notify us prior to scheduling, we will provide you with instructions on when to take your medication/insulin.
*If you are sick (FLU, COVID, etc.) or taking antibiotics, your procedure may be rescheduled*
