Prescription Policy (Narcotics Policy)
Nexus Pain Care evaluates each patient’s situation and creates a treatment plan that considers all relief options, including non-narcotic pain medication, injections/procedures, physical therapy, chiropractic care, or behavioral health. Below are some preliminary considerations and expectations we set.
- Patients who are taking prescribed narcotics (controlled substances) MUST sign a Pain Management Agreement at their new patient visit.
- Patients who are taking prescribed narcotics (controlled substances), MUST provide a monthly urine drug test which ensures that patients are in compliance with state and clinic guidelines.
- New patients to Nexus Pain Care who report chronic pain or have been prescribed narcotic pain medication in the past by other doctors will be carefully evaluated to determine the best course of treatment.
- New patients should understand that previously prescribed controlled medications will not always be continued/refilled by Nexus Pain Care. It is up to the providers’ discretion to prescribe what they think is appropriate for each patient.
- Patients felt to be at risk for withdrawal from narcotic use may be referred out to seek care at a drug detox center.
Prescription/Narcotic Policy
- Patients must be seen in the office EVERY MONTH to receive a refill of controlled medications.
- We do not fill early or replace lost prescriptions (controlled medications) for any reason. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Patients should call at least 3 business days in advance for a refill to ensure they do not run out of medication.
- Medications will be filled during business hours ONLY: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Medications will NOT be filled AFTER 5:00 on weekdays and will NOT be filled on weekends.
- Patients are only allowed to receive controlled medications from ONE provider.
- Patients are only allowed to use ONE pharmacy for prescribed medications.
- Patients must call their pharmacies PRIOR to their appointment to ensure they have the medication and quantity in stock. If a pharmacy needs to be updated, please inform our office staff during check-in.
